Story Behind The Song
Oh, my son hates this song (as any son would). As I told him, "It's not like I set out to write a sex song." The song grew out of an off-hand remark made in the studio - to approach some background vocals "as if you were the saxophone section." Obviously, this remark stuck in my mind and, to my surprise (and my son's horror), this song emerged. I really resisted writing it but have learned to give in to the god of song and write what I'm given. Bill Bentley called in Tony Malfatti to play the saxophone and I'm so glad he did! My brother, Scott, included this in our musical "Old Folks at Home," with a wickedly humorous interpretation that delighted the audience.

Lyrics
Play Me Like a Saxophone
V1: Play me like a saxophone
Like I'm one of the keys
Run your fingers over me
Linger where you please
As if I'm the most beautiful melody you've known
Love me like a saxophone
V2: Shake me like a tambourine
Make me want to move
Over you and under you
As we find our groove
Let the rhythm take us somewhere we've never been
Love me like a tambourine again
Bridge: I was so lonely
Night after night
You came to hold me
And play me back to life
V3: Play me like a violin
Make me want to sing
You will find the sweetest voice
I will be your string
Let your imagination run wilder than the wind
Love me like a violin
Let the sound wash over us
With a haunting tone
Play me like a saxophone
Touch me like a saxophone
Love me like a saxophone
