Story Behind The Song
This song grew out of a review of my life after I had experienced tragedy and heartache and needed to recalibrate. I entrusted its care and feeding to Bill McKinney, a musician and producer I'd had the pleasure of working with in the Detroit area. Together, with Pat Schrein, my favorite drummer and awesome singer, we spent some time in Bill's studio, working on several tunes, including this one. Bill fashioned an amazing arrangement and created some unforgettable acoustic guitar parts while Pat, well, Pat makes everything sound better. Years later, when it came time to review this song for inclusion in my musical memoirs, Bill Bentley uncharacteristically said "Keep it as it is" (although we added a slight drone section). And that's what we did.

Lyrics
LANGUISHING
Words & Music by Jill Detroit
I'm languishing here -- I have fallen
Clinging to all I hold dear
No one can hear me calling
Darling, I'm languishing here
I never thought my life would be
What someone else wanted for me
I really thought I was the master of my own fate
If the choices were mine
Did I run out of time?
Have I come to the garden too late?
I'm languishing here -- I have fallen
Clinging to all I hold dear
No one can hear me calling
Darling, I'm languishing here
If we all have a destiny, I wonder what that means for me
Could I be part of someone else's great design?
There's been a mistake, someone's taken my place
I'm in their life and they're living mine
I'm languishing here -- I have fallen
Clinging to all I hold dear
No one can hear me calling
Darling, I'm languishing here
I'm languishing here -- I have fallen
Clinging to all I hold dear
No one can hear me calling
Darling, I'm languishing, lonely and anguishing
Darling, I'm languishing here
