Story Behind The Song
I started composing this song sitting in an airport as I made the move to return to Detroit a decade and a half after moving away. I was thinking about the friends I was leaving and the friends I was going to be reuniting with as well as all the other great friendships I've enjoyed. The song makes me smile - makes me feel warm and hopeful. My brother, Scott, included it in our musical "Wedded Bliss," as the song sung by the prospective bride as she and her groom "re-engage" after a bitter split over extravagant wedding plans.

Lyrics
Just Be My Friend
V1: There's a light at the end of the tunnel
No need to run, we'll get there some day
We may be worse for the wear but who cares
So long as we stay together
Can't say goodbye - you and I have a long way to go
When we get there, we'll know
But till then, just be my friend
V2: We laid in the grass
How we laughed and laughed till our faces began to hurt
And then we laughed a little more 'cause life is too short
We let it all roll off our backs
So relaxed in the warmth of the sun
So much fun - you're the one
On whom I depend to just be my friend
Bridge: That's what friends do - they defend you
Pick you up so you don't fall down
When you're lonely, they're only
A phone call away - day after day
V3: When I was scared, you were right there
To make me feel safe and sheltered
That's all I really need and you do that for me
By being where I need you to be
And I see you for all that you are
You're never far from my heart
Till the better, better end just be my friend
