Story Behind The Song
It occurred to me that many of my friends and family members were deeply divided over political leanings and religious beliefs. Being a devoted "love child" it puzzled me that people couldn't just get along - let someone believe what they want without waging war to force alien or uncomfortable beliefs on an unreceptive audience. This is the second song I ever recorded with Bill Bentley and, although I didn't envision it as a duet, he did so that's why you hear us both singing! It works well that way. My brother, Scott, included it in the musical "Devil May Care" that we co-wrote.

Lyrics
It Doesn't Matter
I don't know why life hurries by
One moment here and next moment gone
Impatient and loud, steady and proud
It doesn't matter whose side you're on
Looking back now, I can see how
Dark became light and right became wrong
With space and with time, one day you find
It doesn't matter whose side you're on
Tonight, dear, I'm right here
So don't fear -- everything's fine
All you can do is hold on to what's true
Try to stay focused, fearless, and strong
Because, in the end, I tell you, my friend,
It doesn't matter whose side you're on
