I was in a recording session when one of my fellow performers made the comment that he and his wife seemed to "hurt each other every day without even trying." The phrase stuck with me and grew into this song, with the overall message that, despite the daily affronts, if we give bring everything we are and give everything we can to our relationships, we'll know, at the end of the day, that we gave it our all.
