Story Behind The Song
I have to give the credit to Mark Shaltz, with whom I've co-written a few songs. He came up with this idea and we had a lot of fun writing it. Bill Bentley graciously recorded the reference vocal and encouraged us to have a more country male voice do the final recording. Tom Van Dyke, a local performer in northern California, sang the final version.

Lyrics
I Can't Two Step
V1: Getting ready for our big night out on the town
You step into the hallway and my heart begins to pound
'Cause you look just like a model from a fashion magazine
Then you ask those questions that pull me right out my dream
"Does this dress make me look fat?
Do these shoes make me too tall?
Is my make up out of place?
Does my hair look right at all?"
Then you look at me and ask me
"Aren't you ready yet?"
I got news for you, dear, what you see is what you get
Cho: I can't two-step but I can side step
All these questions you're asking me
I can't say yes and I won't guess
All the reasons you're testing me
V2: As soon as we arrive I know why you picked this place
The couples on the dance floor floated by us with such grace
You sweetly took my hand in yours and we began to sway
I saw the hurt come in your eyes as I pulled away
"Why'd you leave me standing there?
Are you sorry you're with me?
Were you looking at those girls?
Would you rather that I leave?"
Then you turn and ask me, "Have you fallen out of love?"
Not a chance, my darling, I'm the hand and you're the glove
Cho:
Bridge: I'm sure Im not so clever
That anyone could ever
Think I'm more than just an ordinary man
But I bet my F-150
That you're feeling kinda "iffy"
So, honey, let me tell you who I am
V3: I like pizza with my beer
I don't press my pants
I pick flannel over satin
And I never learned to dance
Although I love to hold you
The feeling's bittersweet
It's not that I'm not willing
I'm just cursed with two left feet
Cho: I can't two step - I hope you don't regret
Coming out tonight with me
Maybe I can't dance but I can romance
So, baby, come on home with me
