Story Behind The Song
Originally, this song was a lovely 3/4 time tune but when I played it for my producer, Bill Bentley, he convinced me that the melody had to be edgier to reflect the lyrics. I took the song back and experimented with different approaches until this one hit home.

Lyrics
V1: Don't ask the question if you can't take the answer
Don't ring the bell hoping nobody's home
If you're not prepared - if you're too scared
Better to leave things along
Don't take the path of least resistance
Just so you don't make waves
Sometimes it's worth it to stand up and speak up
Well worth the heartache it saves
Cho: Don't ask the question - don't crack the shell
Don't take the low road - don't kiss and tell
Don't go to battle if you can't win the war
Don't forget what you're fighting for
V2: Don't look at the mansion if you can't pay the price
Why tease yourself with what you can't afford
If self-control is your ultimate goal
Patience reaps its own reward
Don't be afraid to ask for what you need
If you don't tell me how can I comply
You don't have to be brutally honest with me
Sometimes it's kinder to lie
