Back To Square One

Story Behind The Song

The hook "It's clear when all is said and done - We always come back to square one" appeared early one morning (as so many of those random phrases do). I had been thinking about a conversation I'd had with my sister-in-law, Danielle, who is always such a great source of inspiration, in which one of us said "Don't know where we're going - only know we'll get somewhere." That line validated the whole concept of coming back to where you started in the first place and so it became part of the song. I envisioned the song would be more lively but think the tempo and tone of the instrumentation evokes the mystical-ish feel of the message.

Lyrics

Back To Square One

V1: Why does it always seem like I'm living in a dreamlike state
Does anybody notice when I start to float away
Into my own world where I'm my own girl
Free from what others think or say of me
Free to be any way I want to be

V2; Can you hear me sighing when I'm lying in my bed
Or is this conversation recreation in my head
These silly musings might be confusing
To anyone else but me and you
Why don't we just keep it between us two

Cho: It's clear when all is said and done
We always come back to square one

V3: Don't know where we're going, only know we'll get somewhere
Keep looking for a clue that me and you are finally there
I'm so excited to be invited
To join you on this journey we call romance
To give ourselves permission to take this chance

Cho:

Tag: It always comes down to you and to me
No matter what else comes along
