Story Behind The Song
Guess who inspired this song? I hadn't written a song in a while and, for the first time ever, entertained co-writing with someone. A songwriter acquaintance came over and we traded some ideas but nothing felt right enough to pursue. After he left that day, I started playing a riff and, soon after, put a melody on top of it along with some thoughts relating to my daughter, Emily. She was such a challenging child to raise - so smart, energetic, demanding, driven, talented. I focused on some of the episodes of her life - in one, she tried to get out of her crib and fell, breaking her wrist which we didn't appreciate until a couple days had passed with her moaning every time we lifted her arm to change her shirt. Another episode involved her blowing the audience away with her performance as a queen in a school play. I wanted her to know that she could always come home.

Lyrics
ALL FOR EMILY
Words and Music by Jill Detroit
VERSE 1: In the room next door hear a baby cry
Tearfully pondering the wherefore and the why
Is it worth the climb though she could fall?
Yes, it's worth it all -- all for Emily
VERSE 2: There on the center stage, a little lady sings
Wearing the regal robes befitting such a queen
From the overture right through to the curtain call
She does it all -- .all for Emily
BRIDGE: And from the first breath that she drew, it was clear
There was no ordinary soul dwelling here
No whim too wild, no tale too tall
I've seen it all -- all with Emily
VERSE 3: Let her choose a path that she can call her own
And let her know the road that takes her far can bring her home
With triumphs great and troubles small
I want it all -- all for Emily
