Story Behind The Song
This will sound like a familiar theme - it's all about the timing! I met someone who seemed well worth the wait and someone I could appreciate more fully, having experienced other relationships and, hopefully, learned from them. When I took this song into the studio, Bill Bentley suggested I sing the song an octave lower than I had originally placed it. As surprising and unconventional as that was, it really works for this number. Probably the best compliment I got for the song came from one of my nieces who said "I could hear this being played on an elevator!" Thank you......

Lyrics
A Man After My Own Heart
I knew right from the start
You were a man after my own heart
Well worth the wait though you showed up a little late
Now that you are here
One thing's crystal clear
You're just for me and I am only for you
When I look into your eyes
I see where my future lies
My only regret is that we only just met
No one else I know
Can satisfy me so
No truer words spoken - glad I kept the door open for you
You took a left turn when I took a right
You went your way - I went mine
None of that really seems to matter tonight
Who cares how we got here?
Let's just hold on tight
All that we have faced
Has brought us to this place
Words can't express my hope and happiness
Only time will tell
If love will treat us well
After all the ups and downs, finally I found you
