Story Behind The Song
This song comes from the "East Farewell" album. I tried to set the barroom scene at the beginning and end with "talking patrons" Donna belts this one out.
Song Description
A blues based tune sung by a world-wise, good-hearted prostitue to some poor schlep in a bar. She is trying to get him to stop feeling sorry for himself and probably do a little business.

Lyrics
I Can Make You Smile
© J.D. Carroll- Creative Ventures Music
You say she left you lonely, left with only a handshake.
Well, anybody knows that ain?t no way to say goodbye.
You say she broke your heart, made you start all over again.
Come on dry your eyes, no one likes to see a grown man cry.
I Can Make You Smile without the heartaches.
And I can make you high without the headaches.
Take a look around and tell me if you don?t agree.
Don?t you look so down, you got the run around, it?s been done before.
And the style that she used was as old as the clothes that she wore.
You say she made you feel real strong and handsome
Well, anybody?s handsome to her as long as they are not poor.
(Poor boy)
I Can Make You Smile without the heartaches.
And I can make you high without the headaches.
Take a look around and tell me if you don?t agree.
Don?t tell me that you can?t go on, you need someone along to help you through.
That road is mighty dark and I don?t think that you can light it with your smile.
Don?t talk about tomorrow, don?t drown your sorrows in a bottle,
just freshen up my drink a forget about that hotel whiskey for a while.
I Can Make You Smile without the heartaches.
And I can make you high without the headaches.
Take a look around and tell me if you don?t agree.
I Can Make You Smile without the heartaches.
And I can make you high without the headaches.
Take a look around and tell me if you don?t agree.
