Story Behind The Song

"Prepare for Battle" started with the melody - a simple yet epic tune on cello. I wrote the melody long before the rest of the song, but I always had the idea that it would be part of a much larger work. When I came back to the tune, I immediately envisioned a war anthem, and everything else fell into place. The heavy percussion, the melody repeating, but with added parts each time. The intensity rising with each measure - men practicing fighting, getting their armor on, blacksmiths creating weaponry. The stakes are high, and they are risking everything to protect their village.

"Prepare for Battle" is an epic battle anthem with a dramatic cello solo that begins and ends the song. The heavy percussion keeps the song progressing forward. The addition of violins and basses as the song continues adds to the dire nature of the song. And at the end, a chorus of men sounds, along with shouts - signaling that they are ready to fight.
