Story Behind The Song
I was told by an 87 year-old friend from Hawaii to consider this song for my CD, but most of the versions I heard were outdated and really slow. In face, some versions are so slow that they almost put me to sleep, so I arranged this one in a different 6/8 beat with a little more of a pop jazz snap to make it flow better, and be a little less sad sounding, but still keeping that sexy melancholy edge.
Song Description
Johnny Mercer wrote this for his love, Judy Garland, and was published (after he'd struggled with the lyrics for a year), in 1941. It has a beautiful haunting melody, and a nice beat, which is a little more pop and uptempo than the older versions.

Lyrics
Skylark
Have you anything to say to me?
Won't you tell me where my love can be?
Is there a meadow in the mist?
Where someone's waiting to be kissed?
Skylark
Have you seen a valley green with spring,
Where my heart can go a journeying,
Over the shadows and the rain,
To a blossom covered lane.
And in your lonely flight,
Haven't you heard the music in the night?
Wonderful music,
Faint as a willo the wisp,
Crazy as a loon,
Sad as a gypsy serenading the moon.
Oh Skylark,
I don't know if you can find these things,
But my heart is riding on your wings,
So if you see them anywhere,
Won't you lead me there?
Instrumental
And in your lonely flight,
Haven't you heard the music in the night?
Wonderful music,
Faint as a will o the wisp,
Crazy as a loon,
Sad as a gypsy serenading the moon.
Oh Skylark,
I don't know if you can find these things,
But my heart is riding on your wings,
So if you see them anywhere, won't you lead me there?
