They both have accepted the reality of how life can get in the way of romantic affairs and sometimes it's due to self discovery and pursuing your individual path before you can share your life with someone else. In the end, the guy loves her so much that he just wants what's best for her. He wants her to be happy. He compared her being, to a field of flowers. He told her if for some reason the stars don't align for us, than I hope you find someone better than myself. Someone who is truly right for you.
