Story Behind The Song
This was actually one of the first songs I ever wrote!
In high school in North County San Diego, when I wrote the song, I remember growing up and observing a lot of my peers (especially girls) that would constantly compare themselves to others. High School is already really competitive and then throw in the clickiness, popularity contests, trying to find yourself, etc... It makes for a pretty intense environment. No "mean girls!" Can anyone relate? I chose to never be apart of the clickiness and instead had friends in all different groups.
I originally wrote 'Don't Ask Why' on piano with a Tori Amos influence. It had a cool piano hook and a pop/ singer songwriter vibe.
The message is moody and uplifting. Trust your inner voices and don't always seek validation in others around you. Same message for social media today! Easier said then done, especially at the age of 14 in high school.
Music for me was always my therapy and personal outlet.
This song led to some major opportunities. My acapella performance of the song was featured on Dr. Wayne Dye's audio book "10 Secrets for Success and Inner Peace"
I re-recorded and released 'Don't Ask Why' in Nashville with a fresh newly produced vibe.
Song Description
Don't Ask Why was released in honor of renown self-help and spiritual author, Wayne Dyer's anniversary of his passing. This song was featured on his audiobook "10 Secrets for Success & Inner Peace" from a live acapella performance by Autumn Knight at his retreat.
"The words were right on with with what we were talking about for this entire program. That was beautiful!" -Wayne Dyer
The universal message applies to social media today -- don't always compare yourself to others. Look inside for answers.

Lyrics
Don't run too far
You'll never find your way back
To where you started from
Spinning around in your circles
Keep your head up
In the sky
Don't ask why
Take a look inside yourself
Don't ask why
You can hear your voice
Don't ask why
Can you feel it in your heart
Don't ask why
The answers been there all along
You stand breathless
All your energy is drained down
I see the light
I see the truth
I see the real you
Hiding deep down
Somewhere inside
Don't ask why
Take a look inside yourself
Don't ask why
You can hear your voice
Don't ask why
Can you feel it in your heart
Don't ask why
The answers been there all along
Don't forget
Everything comes to an end someday
What if that day was today
Are you happy now
Are you happy now
Are you happy now
Are you happy now
Don't ask why
Take a look inside yourself
Don't ask why
You can hear your voice
Don't ask why
Can you feel it in your heart
Don't ask why
The answers been there all along
