Story Behind The Song
I wanted to write a bossa nova song about love.
Song Description
A guy goes on vacation to an ancientlocation looking for romance. He visits ancient ruins and hears a myth that makes an impression on him. The myth spoke of a pretty young woman, who while out sailing, was swept off a
boat by a freak wave. The sailor who loved her mourned her loss for the rest of his life. Love can be blind, esp at first love, because we think of all the possibilities. Her devious spirit lingers at the site looking for a companion to live out the life with her that she had been denied. One night, the guy thinks he sees her. Her looks and gestures entrance him, maybe to the point of danger. He runs across the sand, reaching out for her hand. He thinks he got her hair, but it was just seagrass (and memories).

Lyrics
First Love
(Anthony Marques) 10sep19v1
V1 On my first vacation
To an ancient location
I heard a story they tell.
A myth from the Druids
From jungle-filled ruins
Had me in its spell.
V2 They spoke of a maiden
Lost while out sailing.
Was taken by a wave.
The sailor who loved her
Mourned her departure
Til his dying day.
Chorus First love's all consuming;
We dream of what might be.
Not something we forget.
First Love can be blind
When we're so inclined
Toward someone we just met.
V3 This sudden departure
Left her wanting a partner
That she still longs to find. .
So her spirit hovers
While looking for lovers
Out in the ocean night.
V4 I could swear that I saw her
Come out of the water.
She seemed to beckon me.
Her enticing glance
Had me hope for romance
As she led me toward the sea.
Chorus
Bridge Feeling something my heart never had.
I ran across the moonlit sand
And I reached out for her hand,
But felt only blades of sea grass.
Chorus
