Story Behind The Song

I wanted to write a song about a common weed that is really just an earth-growing lifeform, like any other plant.

A whimsical story about life from the viewpoint of a dandelion.

Lyrics

I started out life, looked like a flower, then as a fluffy seed.
Puffs got me to fly, with all the power to catch a passing breeze.

I drifted around like butterflies doing their airborne dances.
Was blown up and down, felt so alive, ducking the pear tree branches.

(I said) Look at me floating as free as a bird.
When the wind dies down, I'll fall to the earth.
I'll soak up rainwater then bask in sunshine.
To look like I ought-a, a yellow dandelion.

Looked for open space hoping to head where it was nice and muddy.
But finally got placed into a bed of flowers that smelled lovely.

Once settled in soil, I spread my roots wanting to feed my leaves
Feeling them uncoil, my tender shoots allowed me to be me.

(I said) Look at me growing high above the grass.
Nothing can stop me, I'm sprouting up fast.
I'll soak up rainwater then bask in sunshine.
To look like I ought-a, a yellow dandelion.

I created a flower all of my own and felt some fresh seeds form.
So after a shower, when the wind blows, it'll look like a snow storm.

(I'll say) Look at them floating, as free as a bird.
