Barb has listened to grooves all the way from the Funk Brothers, to the electronic music of Kraftwerk, Pink Flloyd, Moody Blues, and Alan Parsons Project. ("Time" is a favorite) She tries to understand how a groove from motown and eerie sounds from the British 60's morph into today's sounds in bands like Fleet Foxes, and artists like Moby and Ben Harper, Norah Jones, Sade, Dido, and Amy Winehouse. She's always wanted to turn her writing and singing skills toward songwriting, so when her niece, Deanna, showed her how to compose music on her computer, a door opened for her. After cutting, copying, and pasting together pieces of loops, she came up with harmony and rhythm tracks, then added melodies, counter melodies, harmonies and lyrics. Professional studio musicians and vocalists interpret further, by her direction. The chord progressions come from my "haunting" minor key preferences. Her songs include pop, rock and neo-classical. Her track "Beyond the Sea," won the April 2009 round in the Song of the Year award in Adult Contemporary. "Come on out and Dance" won in November for the Dance/Electronic category in the same contest. She's dabbling in crossover genres such as country pop and urban Country.
