Musica Mundi
Musica Mundi is a five-member ensemble that has the intimacy of a chamber group, yet a driving rhythmic intensity that is graced with elegant melodies. The band's musical director, Terry Herald describes their sound as "cool Latin rhythms with fiery classical chops.". Co-writer and World guitarist Scott Loudon adds a fiery improvisational dimension with a variety of stringed instruments while violinist Sonia Lee adds both passion and grace. Percussionist Mark Stone's unique "drum kit," forms the basis for Musica Mundi's fluid rhythms. Internationally renowned jazz bassist, Dan Kolton, not only propels the ensemble rhythmically, but adds a sensuous melodic element.
The ensemble primarily performs original compositions by the band's music director and classical guitarist, Terry Herald. Combining an extensive background as a film composer with his experience as music director for jazz artists such as Earl Klugh, Alexander Zonjic and Wendell Harrison, Herald's music is an infectious, melodic collection of tunes, influenced by Western classical tradition, South American rhythms and jazz harmonies.
