"Not A Dark Ride" is an album filled with songs of lyrical, imagistic beauty and wistful, haunting melodies. The songs are inspired by the Bob Dylan/John Lennon/ Bruce Springsteen tradition, and include themes and styles that range from ballad to country rock to folk rock to the straight ahead rock 'n' roll so favored by Lennon et al. Several of the tunes refer to unfufilled love with specific women, e.g., Amelia, Alexis, and Julieanne; others promote the idea of seizing the day, "being here now," and other Humanistic principles previously addressed by Dylan and Lennon ("All You Need Is Light" and "Life's Not a Dark Ride" being two of the more outstanding examples). Mainly, the consistently high level of craftmanship in the compositions is noteworthy.
