Wilfred N & the Grown Men are in a little world of their own. Out of their chilly northern basement studio, comes a sunny new 2-cd album of inventive and adventurous pop/rock music. ”Waiting For Luck To Come,” the Edmonton group’s sixth d.i.y. album, sparkles with new and meaningful songs by Wilfred Kozub that could have been written in the heyday of pop – or tomorrow. It’s a deceptively cheerful album that touches upon loyalty, disillusionment, luck and the darker aspects of relationships. Surprises abound. Hawaiian guitars (courtesy of co-production pal Jamie Philp) and bossa nova rhythms are sprinkled amongst the grittier guitar/vocal/synth rockers. And the beguiling cd artwork by Kozub, who doubles as a visual artist, is a pleasing bonus.
