Taxi To Tonganoxie (was #1 Classic Rock)

Story Behind The Song

"Taxi To Tonganoxie", is the only CD of Chet Nichols' music that features full back-up bands in the studio. The material on this CD was recorded, engineered and co-produced by Stephen Barncard in two different studios back in the early and mid 1970's. The songs, "Paper Burns" and "You Were They And They Were You" were recorded at Wally Heider's studio in San Francisco. The other tunes were recorded at Stephen Barncard's home in the hills above Beverly Glen in Los Angeles. The back-up band at the Beverly Glen location consisted of a fabulous group of artists: Laura Allan (Laura Allen)- vocals, Fuzzy Oxendine - drums (Sons, Grape, Jerry Miller Band, etc), Wayne Goodwyn on Fiddle, lap steel (Emmylou), Ricky Wallace, Estrella Berosini - vocals and Billy Berosini - bass (Jackson Browne, Brewer & Shipley). Chet played acoustic guitar, dulcimer, electric guitar and piano. Even Stephen got in on the act and made an appearance playing bass! The Heider sessions consisted of Buddy Cage - pedal steel guitar (New Riders of The Purple Sage), Pete Sears - bass (New Riders Of The Purple Sage, Jefferson Starship) and Spenser Dryden - drums (The Airplane, The New Riders Of The Purple Sage). Even though this collection of tunes is almost 35 years old, people are still discovering it, enjoying it and sharing it.

CHORUS
Take the taxi
Take the taxi
To Tonganoxie
I'll be waiting at 3rd and Main
To ease your trouble and your pain

VERSE 1
Well, you know how to get there
You know the directions
If you, don?t say so
I?ll repeat them again
Take a left at the light
Exit right on 40 highway
Go west 3 miles
At the first light turn right
At the next corner 3rd and Main
I will be waiting

REPEAT CHORUS
Take the taxi, yeah
Take the taxi, yeah
To Tonganoxie
Don't take the train
Don't go by air
Take the taxi, baby
I'll pay the fare

VERSE 2
Well, you know how to get there
You know the directions
If you, don?t say so
I?ll repeat them again
Take a left at the light
Exit right on 40 highway
Go west 3 miles
At the first light turn right

I love the lyrics. The vocals are great they have a very bluesy feel. The musicians are very tight. The song is well written. The mix is very good. I love this song, keep up the good work!!!

Very Oklahoma sounding country blues tune, similar maybe to JJ Cale or some of Clapton's stuff when he's in a Tulsa mood. Very well done.

yeah the beat is nice and easy and solid. nice mixing on this by the way.
wanted to hear the female vocals too wouldnt hurt to put just a touch more although what you have is fine.

Cool nice groove Excellent singing

Nice little guitar riff in the intro here, very catchy. Reminds me of B52s for some reason. This is really good, vocals are excellent when they come in and then the guitars change to a more standard rock and roll pattern. Chorus and Bridge are very standard but they work because of the excellent vocals. The repeated "Take a taxi" really works and is extremely catchy. Nice job :)

Original vocal sound and nice phrasing.

Nice bit of of rock n roll. Cool truckin' vibe. Good voice. Neat ending. Would have liked a kick-ass lead solo in there, but that is just my taste.

Sounds good from what I am hearing.

Solid tune. had me grooving to the beat. Everything sounds really tight to me,.

I like it a lot. I wish I could see this live.

Nice groove, vocal conveys the vibe just right. It get you bouncing, Nice job!
