Music Makes a Difference!
Battle of the Bands Rules and Guidelines
Description: Music Makes a Difference, Inc. (MMAD) is hosting a local Battle of the Bands competition
to support local musicians during the COVID-19 pandemic. Musicians/bands nominated into the
competition will compete against each other by submitting new videos and fans will then vote for their
favorite artist/band ($1 donation = 1 vote). All vote donations will be distributed to artist/bands that
participate based on a sharing percentage detailed below.
Band Registration: Musicians/Bands wanting to participate in the Battle of Bands will self-register at
Broadjam.com/music-makes-a-difference/register. All genres/spoken word/dj's are eligible to register.
Contestant Selection: The musicians/bands selected to compete will be based on fan nominations
(from the list of bands who registered for the competition). Nomination voting is free in this initial
round of contestant selection. A fan can vote for up to five bands to be in the contest but can only cast
one vote per band. The 16 local artists/bands receiving the most votes will be in the Battle. Nomination
votes can be cast at Broadjam.com/music-makes-a-difference/nominate.
Battle Format: The top 16 artists/bands nominated by fans will be divided randomly into four divisions
(if an artist is in multiple bands in the competition, the bands will be placed in separate divisions). Each
week a division battle will be hosted (Virtually) whereby the bands in the division will be asked to submit
2 music videos. One video must be an original composition written by an artist or artists in the band and
the other a cover song selected from a group of announced music legends (ie. Johnny Cash, The Beatles,
etc.). The selected music legends will be announced at the same time the division selections are
announced. Music videos for each division will be due to MMAD per the Timeline posted as part of
these Rules and Guidelines. The participating contestant videos will then be played during a hosted live
broadcast on Broadjam.com (date and time to be widely announced). During the broadcast, and for a
period of 4 days, fans can vote for their favorite performance via a “Donate” button on Broadjam.com
where $1 donation = 1 vote. Fans can donate/vote as much and as often as they want. Votes will be
updated constantly and posted on Broadjam.com/ music-makes-a-difference/battle. The band with the
highest number of votes at the close of voting wins the division competition.
The vote donations will be dispersed as follows: 50% of the vote donations will go to the
artist/band receiving the votes and 50% will be dispersed to the other 3 artists/bands that
participated Division. This method is to ensure that a band doesn't simply pour donations into
their vote bucket ensuring themselves a victory. It will also spread some of the donation love
around to the other competitors.
Important note: you do NOT have to be available on the night of your division's contest or on
the night of the Final 4 Finale. Your video links will be aired via Broadjam.
Final 4 Finale!: After the four weekly division rounds are completed and winners have been
determined, MMAD will host a Final 4 Finale! Each band in the finale will create two new music videos.
At least one of the songs/performances submitted must be an original, written by an artist or artists in
the band. The second video may be a cover from any artist the band chooses to cover. The Final 4
Finale! videos will be broadcast in a final live, hosted broadcast on Broadjam.com. Voting will again be
by donation where $1 donation = 1 vote. All voting for the Final 4 Finale! will be concluded by the end
of the Final 4 broadcast, and the winner (determined by highest number of votes) announced at the
culmination of the broadcast.
For the Final 4 Finale! vote donations will be dispersed as follows: 50% of the vote donations
will go to the artist/band receiving the votes and 50% will be dispersed to the other 15
artists/bands that participated in the contest. Again, this enables all participants to enjoy some
financial benefit from the competition.
Final 4 Finale! Prize Money: In addition to the allocated share of band vote donations, the Final 4
Finalists will be awarded the following prizes:
- $3,000 1st Prize

Disclaimer: MMAD will do its best to run a fair and fun Battle of the Bands. Please keep in mind that
MMAD's purpose in hosting the event is to provide support and exposure for local bands during the
pandemic. We have put the event together on a short timeline in order to get financial support to the
artists when they need it, which is right now. The competition may have some hiccups/flaws. We
welcome your constructive comments on how we can improve the event in the future. Hopefully this
can be a live competition in 2021. We're excited about the opportunity to host this event and hopefully
make a difference in our community!
